TAMPA — The federal government has agreed to pay $150,000 to settle a lawsuit from a mob hit man who sued after he was accidentally shot by FBI agents during his arrest in Tampa.
Federal court records filed today disclosed the amount to be received by Frankie A. Roche, who admitted he was paid $10,000 to fatally shoot Adolfo “Big Al” Bruno in 2003. Bruno was a boss of the Genovese crime family.
In the settlement papers, the government doesn’t admit fault or liability in the 2004 shooting of Roche by the FBI. The settlement was reached in order to avoid the expenses of further litigation, court records said.
Roche was a fugitive from Massachusetts at the time of his Aug. 19, 2004, arrest. According to court documents, he was lying on the floor of his Carrollwood home in handcuffs when an agent’s gun discharged. The bullet struck Roche’s back and passed through his stomach.
Roche sued the government in 2007 for $10-million.
